Set along the waterfront of the Mighty Columbia River, this immersive workshop at Pier 11 Studio brings together artists Jodi Reeb and Elise Wagner for a dynamic exploration of collagraph printmaking and book arts. Inspired by the textures, breathtaking views and movement of the Oregon coast, participants will create richly layered prints and transform them into expressive pages, artist books, or finished panel works.

Working with Wagner Collagraph Wax, students will learn how to build flexible, durable collagraph plates capable of holding intricate textures and gestural mark-making. Elise will demonstrate inking and printing techniques on an etching press using R&F materials, including printing onto Encaustiflex, a unique, flexible encaustic surface that expands the possibilities of printmaking beyond traditional paper.

Jodi will guide participants in intuitive, process-driven approaches to altering the page, incorporating R&F Oil Pigment Sticks and drying oils to enhance prints with rich color, mark, and depth. Through layering, collage, and mixed media techniques, students will explore how prints evolve into narrative-driven journal pages and artist books.

Participants will create a body of work that can be:

• Integrated into art journals or handmade books

• Developed through drawing, collage, and oil-based media

• Printed onto Encaustiflex for luminous, wax-compatible surfaces

• Optionally mounted onto Ampersand Encausticbord panels for a refined, archival presentation

This collaborative workshop emphasizes experimentation, material exploration, and the dialogue between surface and story. With the energy of the river and the coast as backdrop, students are encouraged to push boundaries and reimagine the printed page.
