About Mark Mahaffey
Mark Mahaffey a master printmaker who has spent the past 36 years collaborating with artists from around the world to produce fine art limited edition prints and sculptures. After relocating to Tucson, Arizona in 2019, the shift in environment sparked a new phase in his creative journey—one focused on developing a personal studio practice, distinct from his previous collaborative work.
In addition to making his own art, Mark continues to teach printmaking and pursue innovative research in Vitreography—a specialized form of printmaking using glass plates instead of traditional metal or wood. As one of the few practitioners with deep experience in this medium, Mark’s work in Vitreography explores the unique luminosity and depth the process offers, pushing its boundaries through both technical precision and expressive experimentation.

Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Step into the world of vitreography, a distinctive printmaking method pioneered by Harvey Littleton in the 1970s. Using a glass plate as the printing surface, this process beautifully bridges traditional techniques like lithography, intaglio, relief, silkscreen, and monotype — all brought to life on an etching press.
During this one-day workshop, you'll:
• Gain insight into how various printmaking styles translate onto glass.
• Experiment with creating your own watercolor monotypes on 12” x 18” glass plates, which will be printed onto 15” x 22” paper.
• Learn how to create plates outdoors and bring them back to the studio for printing — perfect for artists who love to work on location.
What’s provided: Glass plates, paper, and basic studio materials.
What to bring: Watercolor paints, watercolor pencils, crayons, dyes, brushes, towels, lunch, and anything else that helps you feel at home in the studio. Any water-soluble materials are welcome. Feel free to bring sketches or ideas to inspire your prints.
Whether you're new to printmaking or looking to explore a new medium, this workshop offers a fun, approachable way to experiment with glass as a creative surface.
